| April 28th - June 29th | The Ceaseless Horizon: recent text paintings by Bertha HusbandApril 28th - June 29th
When looking out to sea, the horizon, actually a curve which traces an eternal cycle in time and space, appears to be a straight line. These paintings are composed in a rectangular, not circular format, but their endless unbeginning is characterized by the background text, map or other image folding back onto itself from the right side of the canvas to the left side. While working on top of the textual background, some of the words have become highlighted; an unforeseen message sometimes occurs. Bertha Husband: A painter and installation artist, native of Scotland and graduate of the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Bertha Husband has exhibited nationally and internationally for the last 30 years in museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago; the Bradford City Art Museum, Bradford, England: and in cultural centers, galleries and art schools in London, Cambridge, Chicago, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Mexico. She has also been a member of numerous artist collectives since the 1970's, such as Artists for Democracy in London and Axe Street Arena in Chicago.
