Coming this Spring:

The Wanderer Walking Tour, in cooperation with the Owens-Thomas House. The tour begins at the Owens-Thomas House, weaves through the historic district, and concludes at the Ships of the Sea Museum. Learn about the characters, places, events and circumstances that surrounded the slave ship and subsequent trial.

The West Broad Street School exhibit will chronicle in text, photographs and oral histories the use of the Scarbrough House as West Broad Street School (1878-1962), the first public school for African-American students in Savannah. Opening in May.

Reinstallation of the Museum's Ship in the Bottle collection.

"Rogues and Rouge" is a Powerpoint presentation and activity program developed by Wendy Melton (our Interpretive Specialist) for Girl Scout and school groups. It is a very entertaining and informative look at the history of women pirates. For more information, contact Wendy at the Museum.

June 28 Second Annual Akonting/Banjo Workshop
Learn about and build available-material versions of African and American banjos. $30. fee includes 2 kits, tools, playing instruction and a wealth of resources. Registration is required and limited to 10 participants. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Call Tony Pizzo at 232 1511 for information.
August 9 Gretsch Foundation Banjo Building Workshop
Assemble a great-sounding five-string fretted banjo (with resonator back) from parts provided by the Gretsch Foundation and GHS Strings. $30. fee includes materials, tools and instruction. Registration is limited to 20, and children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Workshop will be held at Senior Citizens, Inc., at 3025 Bull Street, Savannah at 10 am.
