Artist Biography

John G. Jensen is Professor Emeritus of Ceramics and Sculpture at Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. John has an active studio called the Isle of Hope Studio where he creates pottery, ceramic and figure sculpture and builds furniture.
John, born in Tomahawk, WI is 1 of 7 children. He graduated from the University of Wis. - Stevens Point with the Chancellors' Award. He earned his MFA in ceramics, sculpture & painting at the University of Arizona and was awarded the Gregson Award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year Award. At Armstrong he has been awarded the Dean H. Propst Award and Kristina Brockmeier Award, both given for excellence in teaching, the Armstrong Scholar's Award and has been featured in South Magazine, Coastal Arts and Antiques, The Armstrong Magazine and the Savannah News Press, among others. John has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Sculpture and has travelled to South America, the Republic of GA and Korea to give presentations on his work.
He is the author of Ceramics Sculpture: The World of Jensen and is married to Linda Jensen, professor, artist and mother. They have 2 children and live on the Isle of Hope, Savannah, GA.
