SUPPER AT SEA - KATIE HAGEN
Artist Biography

Katie Hagen is a Savannah-based fibers artist and graphic designer. Her practice encompasses joyful interventions in the built environment and site-specific art installations – designs that activate space and transform surface with color, light and the impression of movement.
Katie combines innovative applications of traditional textile processes – dyeing, weaving, basketry, and fabric manipulation – with digital fabrication methods to create a delightful foil to our often-boring spaces. Inspired by dynamic skies and undulating landscapes, she mimics their gradients and organic lines through natural and industrial materials. Rendered at a scale that suggests the natural world in which humans evolved, she nurtures our innate need for sensory-rich surroundings, evoking our universal joy response to the aesthetics that have long helped humans to flourish.
Katie’s work has been exhibited at the Jepson Center’s 2024 Pulse Festival in Savannah, Ga., and is part of the SCAD permanent collection, currently installed at the Savannah and Atlanta campuses. Her solo M.F.A. thesis show, Delight: Enlivening Space and Surface with Color, Light and Movement, was on view at Gallery 2424 in Savannah, Ga., in November 2023.
Katie received an M.F.A. in Fibers and an M.A. in Production Design from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2023. She previously studied graphic design at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and received a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University.
