Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum stands proudly in the Historic District of Downtown Savannah.
Our property features our William Scarbrough House, which showcases domestic Greek Revival architecture and is the home to our maritime museum. Our venue showcases the largest private gardens in the historic district and lives only one block west of City Market.
Our space is one of Savannah's best hidden gems and we can't wait to share it with you!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is included with rental?
The entire property including the parking lot, museum (by arrangement after public hours), the Scarborough Garden and North Garden (which includes the Pergola area, Grove of Trees and North Garden Assembly Room).
Can the event start before 5:30pm?
Yes, by arrangement for early closing for events utilizing the Scarborough Garden.
Can my guests browse through the museum?
Yes, by arrangement. Food and Beverages are not permitted in the museum.
Do you offer tables, chairs, dishes, linens, etc?
No, your event company can help you with those.
Do we bring our own alcohol?
No, by ordinance, the museum holds the local alcoholic beverage license.
Do you offer catering?
No, please refer to your event planner and/or the list of preferred vendors available.
Can we come tour the venue or do we need to make an appointment?
You are welcome to visit the museum anytime during normal business hours. However, if you would like an accompanied tour with our Venue Manager, please make arrangements.
We only want to hold a ceremony or a reception, not both. Is there a discounted price?
Since there is not the ability to rent out the venue for more than one event at a time, there is no discount.
What counts as a celebration in terms of pricing?
Any event that does not fall into the Corporate or Non-profit categories such as family celebrations, engagement parties, graduation parties, weddings, anniversaries, etc.
Can we rent the venue on a Sunday?
Yes. However, alcohol is not able to be served on premises on Sundays due to local ordinance.
Is security provided for events?
Yes. The Savannah Police Department staff all events and determine the security detail required by local practice. Rates & Hours are set by the SPD.
Is there a curfew for events?
Yes. 11pm.
Is there a local noise ordinance?
Yes. You and/or your event planner can check with museum staff. 65dBs is the limit.
Is there on-site parking?
Yes, we have at least 50 spaces in our parking lot available for you and your guests during your event.
Do you offer weekday discounts?
We charge one flat rate regardless of weekday or weekend.
Is your venue pet-friendly?
Yes, our outdoor space and gardens are pet-friendly.
Will there be any visible exhibits in your venue?
It's possible that we will have outdoor exhibits from time to time. We will let you know whenever the information is available to us if any exhibits will be visible during your event.
Is your venue handicap accessible?
Yes, our outdoor space and gardens are handicap accessible. Entry into the museum is handicap accessible with the wheelchair lift. The lift is accessible via the Scarbrough Garden - the grounds behind the Museum. The lift has a weight capacity of 800 lbs. The second floor of the museum is only accessible by stairs.
